Description:

The back strap has the Charles Ingram retailer marking: "CHAS. INGRAM, GLASGOW." Charles Ingram's (1816-1885) firm manufactured arms from 1832 until 1945. Ingram was also a sergeant in the 1st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers and won a number of prizes for sharpshooting, and his rifle even held the world record for scoring 25 consecutive bulls-eyes at 800 yards. Birmingham proofs are marked between each chamber. Except for the blue finished trigger and trigger guard, the pepperbox has a casehardened finish. The hammer, frame, back strap, butt and trigger guard are engraved. Engraved bands are featured at each muzzle. The engraving consists of floral scrollwork and borders. The grips are finely checkered. The oak partitioned case contains lead balls, an oiler, wrench, screwdriver, ramrod, single cavity bullet mold, plain powder flask (missing charger spring) and sealed F. Joyce & Co. percussion cap tin. The interior of the lid has a reproduction Charles Ingram paper label, and the exterior of the lid has a brass plaque with the initials "T.E.S."

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine. The pepperbox retains 90% plus original vivid case colors showing a few patches of minor spotting. The trigger guard retains strong traces of original blue finish. The grips are very fine showing crisp checkering overall. Mechanically needs work as the barrel cluster does not turn when the action is cycled. The relined case is good with a missing keyhole escutcheon, some high spot wear on the lining and some minor handling/storage marks.
