Description:

This revolver does not have a serial number. The left side of the frame is marked with the early second type two-line patent marking of "Pat. SEPT. 19, 1871/PAT. JULY. 2, 1872". The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address, and"45 COLT" is on the left side at the breech end. The left side of the frame marking is marked "U.S.", and the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger guard is marked "L.D.", the initials of Sub-Inspector Lewis Draper. The front of the trigger guard bow and loading gate are marked "K". The rear face of the cylinder and the bottom left side of the grip are marked "R.A.C.", the initials of the Ordnance Principal Sub-Inspector Rinaldo A. Carr who was responsible for inspecting the final U.S. contract Colt Single Action Army revolvers from November 12, 1889, to September 19, 1890. It is fitted with the later oval type ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and hammer, and a smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains 25% original blue finish concentrated in the protected areas of the ejector housing, barrel under the ejector housing, cylinder flutes, frame butt and protected areas of the trigger guard. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. There is a small amount of minor pitting on the cylinder. The undersized replacement grip is also very good with some wear on the lower edges, a ding on the right side and overall light handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
