Description:

Manufactured in 1880 for the U.S. Government. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address, and the left side of the frame is marked with the three-line, three-patent dates followed by "U.S." There are small "D.F.C." sub-inspection stamps located on the underside of the barrel, the bottom of the frame and the side of the cylinder. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. The matching numbers are found on the bottom of the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1767." The frame and hammer are casehardened, and the remaining parts are blue. Fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with the date "1880" over a script letter oval cartouche on the left side and a script letter box cartouche on the right.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The revolver retains 20% original blue finish with the balance a mottled brown-gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 25% of original case colors which is mostly visible in the protected areas. There is some very scattered light pitting. The full dimension, well-fitting, original grip is fine with initials hand marked on the left side, high edge wear and some minor handling marks. One cartouche is weak (right side), and the other is very legible (left side). Mechanically excellent. A solid representative example of a very desirable U.S. Colt Cavalry Single Action Army!
