Description:

Manufactured in 1890. The Model 1889 Navy revolver is historically significant as both the first Colt double action with a swing out cylinder and the first double action revolver adopted by the U.S. military. This is a commercial revolver. The two-line address/patent dates marking is stamped upside down on the right side of the barrel (likely a factory error). The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT D.A. 38." The left side of the frame has a circled Rampant Colt. Assembly number "329" is stamped on the barrel, rear face of the cylinder, cylinder latch, frame, crane and right grip panel. Note that the underside of the barrel is also marked "38M." Fitted with checkered "COLT" embossed grips. The brown leather holster rig lacks a maker's marking but is marked with "41" over "112" on the loops as well as an embossed flower on the body of the holster. An extra chrome plated .38 LC cylinder (with assembly no. 431) and extra hammer are also included.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 80% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina mixed with some flaking. The otherwise fine grips have a couple large missing chips on the rear lower portion above the butt. Mechanically excellent. The extra replated cylinder retains 97% plus of the chrome plating. The holster rig is very good showing age cracking and wear with some replaced stitching on the holster.
