Confirmed by the included Colt factory letter this revolver was a prototype and display revolver kept by the Colt factory. The letter also confirms the caliber, 2 1/6 shrouded barrel, blue finish with casehardened target hammer, checkered walnut grips with nickel Rampant Colt medallions, rounded butt profile, and plexiglas plate on the left side of frame as a cutaway feature. The letter mentions a yellow tag attached to the trigger guard with a notation signed by engineer Ken Maynard. With yellow trigger guard tag with hand written notations: " Lawman 2" barrel prototype / #97566J w/plastic side plate / I would like this gun back: Ken Maynard". The tag is no longer with the gun. The barrel shows what is left of the two line model/caliber marking (left side) and one line address (right side) due to the factory reducing barrel length to 2 1/8". As stated, the left side plate has been replaced with plexiglass, allowing the interior compartments to be exposed. There is no cylinder thumb release. Blade and frame groove sights with the top of the barrel having a matte blue finish.

Excellent. The revolver retains over 98% original blue finish with some minor handling marks and a minor cylinder drag line. The plexiglas plate has a few minor cracks. The grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks on the bottoms and a few minor nicks in the overall crisp checkering. The action does not function.
