This example has the desirable dual coded receiver of "bcd/ar" indicating that rifle has a receiver manufactured at the Gustloff factory in Weimar, and then sent to the Mauser Werke factory in Borsigwalde for final assembly into a K98 rifle. The top of the receiver is marked with the eagle 26 Waffenamt proof over "bcd/ar" over "42" for the year of manufacture, with the side wall having the standard "Mod. 98" markings. The left rear side of the barrel has a single firing proof, and the sight base is not proofed or numbered. This rifle has the correct all milled barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate without any additional proof marks. The barrel has the standard inverted "V" front sight blade with the tangent rear sight graduated from 1-20 (100-2000) meters. The rifle is fitted with an unmarked wartime laminated pistol grip stock and hand guard with a flat buttplate. The butt end of the stock under the plate is marked "Br" with a "7.7.1942" date code. The stock does not have any visible proofs on the sides.

Very fine. 95% of the original blue finish remains with some small areas of thinning to a dark gray, clear and sharp markings, some small dings and scratches mostly on the barrel bands, and some mild high point wear. The stock is fine with numerous small pressure indentations, scratches, dings, and some deeper gouges on the underside of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. A very fine example of a scarce dual code Mauser Model 98 Bolt Action Rifle.
