Description:

Originally produced in a deep, dark paint job with an early pattern off-white/black Luftwaffe eagle decal on the left, the helmet has been sprayed with khaki brown paint showing a pink tint, with proper masking applied to preserve the decal. Luftwaffe camouflage was commonly executed at the unit level, resulting in notable consistency in style and color. The pink tinted khaki is traditionally associated with Luftwaffe units operating in and around Tunisia, where it was readily available from stocks intended for vehicle and armor camouflage. The interior shows the camo paint around the skirt and the original color up in the crown, obscuring the stamps inside the crown, with a 1937 dated W. Steinbach chinstrap and leather webbing. Formerly of the George Petersen Collection.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with about 80% of the camouflage paint, with some areas flaked or scuffed to expose the original finish, and a few deeper scrapes exposing raw steel on the front of the crown. The eagle was well masked and preserved, with a few areas of loss and a small intrusion of brown paint on the right wing. The chinstrap is good, with the webbing showing cracking and sweat-staining appropriate to heavy use. A high quality survivor of the Second World War, showing both an unusually good condition and evidence of a hard-traveled road through history.
