Description:

This is an excellent example of a late WWII production British Enfield No. 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle that is complete with the matching scope, mount, metal scope and wooden storage/carrying case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifles developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. The left side of the rifle receiver is correctly marked "no. 4 MK I (T)", and the left side of the butt socket is marked "M47C/ENGLAND/1944/E3442/TR". The rifle is fitted with the correct and matching No 32 MKIII scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL.STG.No 32 MKII/O.S. 2039 A/A.K&S No17285/1944/broad arrow", with the rings numbered 12 on the rear set with 13 and 15 on the front set. The mounting bracket is stamped with the matching serial number (E34422), and the scope number is correctly stamped on top of the pistol grip in front of the cheekpiece. The rifle is complete with the matching No. 8 Mark I metal scope can numbered to match the rifle and scope. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. It is fitted with the correct wartime smooth semi-pistol grip stock with the standard proofmarks and matching serial numbers and correctly stamped "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area with the steel buttplate with butt trap compartment. It is also fitted with the correct screw-on cheek piece. The rifle is complete with an original leather sling and correct leather scope covers. The rig is complete with the correct wartime green wooden storage/shipping container.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, the rifle retains 97% of its original wartime blue/black finish showing wear on the edges and high spots overall, more wear or thinning on the bolt handle, and some scratches on the side of the receiver. The scope and mount retain 95% of its wartime finish overall with the finish thinning on the scope body itself, some speckling on the rear eye piece, and the front sun shade having lost its black paint showing the brass finish underneath. The optics are clear and sharp, and the windage and elevation knobs work correctly. The metal scope can is in excellent condition showing 95% of its wartime green finish with wear on the edges. The rear mount (inside the case) that secures the scope inside is broken. The wooden storage case is in fine condition showing numerous dings and gouges overall from the years of being moved around with the lid showing some slight cracks on one end, one of the leather handles torn off, and the inside leather straps that keeps the lid from folding all the way back replaced. The metal hinges and front locks are complete and so are the labels on the inside.
