Description:

Constructed from five segments of single sided "Splittermuster" (splinter pattern) fabric. A series of seven small cloth loops are stitched around the sides and on the top, to be used for mounting additional camouflage material. The interior is of off-white construction (for winter use), with a drawstring adjustment in the back next to a "SS 03208" ink stamp, with an additional "PATHE" stamp inside the left rear. The second oldest film production company still in operation, Pathe was an innovator in newsreel and television production, and while no hard provenance is available, it is likely that this cover was part of the company film prop inventory. See "Camouflage Uniforms of the German Wehrmact" page 67 by Werner Palinckx & J.F. Borsarello, also marked "PATHE" and "SS03208". Provenance: George Peterson

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, with a few small holes and scuffs, as well as some light staining. A fine helmet cover with associations with one of the more decisive engagements of the Second World War.
