Description:

M1 Carbine manufactured by the Inland Division of General Motors in 1943. This carbine has the desirable early production features which include: (1) "I-cut/high wood stock (2) Type I, wide sighting groove, handguard, (3) Type I (flip) rear sight, (4) early flat bolt, (5) Type II, plain face safety and (6) Type III short, plain face magazine catch. The barrel is roll-stamped with the Inland/General Motors markings in two lines and dated "2-43". A "P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the barrel mid-way between the front sight and the stock. The receiver heel is roll-stamped: "INLAND DIV./248216" in two lines. The Inland shield is stamped on the right side of the trigger housing group. The "IO" (Inland Overton) mark is stamped in the stock sling well and on the inside of the handguard. The right side of the stock is stamped with a 1-inch diameter Ordnance Corps escutcheon and an encircled, block "P" proofmark is stamped on the bottom of the handguard. The correct Inland codes are stamped on all visible components. The exposed portions of the barrel, receiver, operating rod and trigger housing have a black or black-green parkerized finish. Protected portions of the barrel, bolt, trigger, safety, magazine release pins, rear sight spring and other components have a polished black Du-Lite finish. The stock and handguard are oil-finished American walnut. The carbine comes with a blued "K.I." marked magazine and olive web sling ink-stamped with the maker's name: "WALTER DONRATH CO." in two locations.

Rating Definition:

Near new, as issued. The carbine retains 99% plus of the original blue and Du-Lite finish with only very minimal slide retraction wear. All the components are original to this carbine and correct for a early 1943 production Inland M1 Carbine. This carbine is one of the few available that escaped issue and subsequent arsenal overhaul. It would be extremely difficult to find a better example of a mid-WWII production Inland M1 Carbine.
