Manufactured on order for the British Government, this is a Colt Government Model semi-automatic pistol which has passed through both the London and Birmingham proof houses; London "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proofs are present, as well as Birmingham "crown/BNP" stamps, a martial "crossed scepter" proof on the frame, and commercial-style bore/tonnage nomenclature on the chamber. The chamber hood as been properly grooved for a .455 rimmed cartridge, "J.J" is stamped on the left side of the frame next to the trigger guard, and the two-tone magazine is correctly marked "CAL . 455/ELEY" on the pinned lanyard ring base.

Fine, with 50% plus of the original blue finish, showing areas of mixed brown and gray patina, particularly on the right side of the slide and frame, bright edge wear, scattered dings and spots. A triangle has been cut into the mainspring housing (significance unknown). Grips are good, with some chips, dents and driver marks on the screw heads. Mechanically excellent.
