This is a excellent WWII Colt Model 1903 "British Proofed" pocket automatic pistol with the desirable "US PROPERTY" markings on the right side of the frame manufactured in late 1944. These pistols were developed early in 1903 as small frame hammerless pocket automatic pistol and proved to be a very successful and popular design for Colt. They were eventually adopted by the US military during WWII as both a small frame sidearm and as a general officers pistol. Many were sent to England under the Lend Lease program, and some even being issued to the members of the SOE/OSS. Many were also purchased after the war as surplus with the majority being sold through the DCM to the civilian market. This specific pistol was manufactured in November 1944. The right side of the frame and slide are both proofed with the British "Crown/BNP", and the chamber area of the barrel is stamped, "Crown/BNP" followed by ".32 (indicating caliber) .675 TONS/Square". The slide is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED APR. 20,1897, DEC. 22, 1903" with the Colt Rampant Horse logo behind the serrations, and the right side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". The serial number is located on the left side of the frame, and the "U.S. PROPERTY" is marked on the right side directly above the trigger. It is equipped with fixed sights and checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions. As noted, it comes with its original cardboard shipping box that has the serial number "564059" written on the underside of the box.

Excellent with 99% of the original parkerized finish overall with clear sharp markings and proofs on the side. The checkered walnut grips are in excellent condition showing only minor handling marks/light wear on the side. The box is in fine condition with only minor scuffing and wear on the underside and corners with some fraying along the upper edges of the lid.
