Description:

This is a WWI Colt that was manufactured in 1913 for the US Army. The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", with the initials "WGP" above the magazine catch for Major Walter Penfield, the US Ordnance inspector at the Colt factory. It has the earlier style lettering and markings with serifs with the standard slide Colt patents and address on the left side and frame markings. The barrel is stamped with a separated "H" and "P" over the chamber area with no other markings. It is fitted with the standard early pattern parts that includes the long smooth trigger, checkered wide hammer, round top rear sight, short grip safety, checkered slide catch and thumb safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard ring. It is fitted with a set of WWI checkered walnut grips with large diamond flats around the grip screws. It comes with a unmarked lanyard base two-tone magazine and a commercial production George Lawrence marked leather holster.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with 80% plus original blue with thinning on the front and rear grip straps mixed with a couple of very small areas of spotting/erosion on the front grip strap. The grips are also very fine with nice distinct checkering overall mixed with some light handling marks on the sides. The holster is in very fine condition with a nice natural russet brown color overall and tight stitching.
