Description:

This example's lock is engraved with scroll, floral, and border patterns and signed "Perry" in fancy script below the pan. The tail of the lock is stepped down and has a sliding safety. William Perry was active around 1780 in Birmingham and is known for his brass barreled pistols and blunderbusses. The barrel is inscribed with "London" in fancy script and has floral engraving at the breech and "crown/GP" and "crown/V" London Gunmakers' Co. proof and view marks on the upper left. The underside is marked "I V I" and stamped "CF" near the breech. The back side of the breech also has a "V." There are bands at the muzzle, near the center, and at the breech. Most of the furniture has attractive martial and floral engraving, and the trigger guard has an acorn finial.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The brass has attractive aged patina throughout including some darker patina forming in the protected areas. The iron displays a blend of gray and brown patina. The stock is also fine and has numerous dents and scratches, a few small chips, and some cracking in the ramrod channel. The lock mainspring is absent, but the lock is otherwise mechanically fine. The markings and engraving patterns are crisp. The bayonet hinge is tight, but the latches function properly.
