This is a scarce example of one of 1,296 Colt Model 1911A1 pistols manufactured in 1938 under contract for the U.S. Army. That year had the second lowest U.S. contract production, and the Colt 1911A1s manufactured in 1938 were some of the first true Model 1911A1 U.S. Army contract pistols delivered. The pistol has the correct standard markings and features for the pre-war Model 1911A1. Checkered grips with reinforcing ring and ribs. The barrel is marked "COLT 45 AUTO" on the left side of the chamber, "G" on the underside ahead of the lug, and "P" on the left side of the lug. Includes a full blue commercial "COLT/45 AUTO" marked magazine. Slide is correctly matching numbered "712803".

Good as custom refinished. 85% of the blue finish remains with some visible pitting under the blue, mild high point and edge wear, light scattered spotting, and some marking buffed light. The replacement grips are fine with small dings and broken tops in the diamond checkering. Mechanically excellent.
