Historic and Rare Documented Colt Factory Inscribed New Service Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

This is an outstanding example of a Colt factory inscribed/engraved New Service Revolver that was manufactured in 1910. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter verifying that it was factory inscribed/engraved as a "presentation" revolver to a Major Stockdell. The factory inscription (documented by Colt letter) on the back strap reads: "Possible No2" on the upper edge of the frame with "Presented to Major Clarence L. Stockdell N.G.GA/By the Officers of the State Rifle Competition June 15, 1910", running down the length of the back strap. The factory letter lists this as a single pistol shipment that was shipped to Andersen Hardware Company in Atlanta Georgia. The barrel is marked on top with the Colt two-line patent and address markings followed by the patent dates of "1884, 1900, and 1905". The left side of the barrel is marked "NEW SERVICE 45 COLT", and the Rampant Colt appears on the left side of the frame. The matching serial number (28451) is marked on the frame and crane. It is fitted with a standard blade front and frame notch rear sights along with a set of smooth walnut grips. It has the desirable early high polish colt blued finish with the nitre blued frame screws with the sides of the hammer correctly polished.

ConditionExcellent with 90% of the bright original high polish blue finish overall with high spot wear and a patch of light pitting visible on the top right rear of the frame. The smaller parts retain 95% of their nitre colored blue finish. The walnut grips are in very fine condition with a nice matching medium brown color overall showing only minor handling marks on the sides and along the lower edges of each grip. A very rare and desirable early Colt factory engraved/inscribed New Service revolver.
