Description:

Most blunderbuss's were used by European navies or to protect coaches, but "thunder guns" were also used by civilians for defending their homes, businesses, carriages, and boats. The lock is marked "THOMSON/& Co." near the center, and the barrel is marked "- - -LONDON- - -" on top and with London Gunmakers' Co. private proof and view marks on the upper left flat. The muzzle flares to 1 1/8 inch, and the actual gauge is estimated above. The trigger guard has a hole for a sling swivel. The stock has a "Roman nose" profile on the butt and simple raised carving around the barrel tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with dark protective coating along the barrel at the stock line and on most of the lock and lower portions of the stock. The exposed brass displays an attractive, darkened patina. The lock has some oxidation and pitting. The stock is also fine and has scattered dings and scratches, crackled coating, and a stabilized crack on the upper left of the forend. Mechanically fine.
