Description:

The barrel has "-RUMFORD-" on top at the breech, a pair of cross scepter proofs on the upper left flat, and some light engraving patterns. Rumford may be the gunmaker or the location it was manufactured (a hamlet in Cornwall). The marking is in the same location "LONDON" is often found on London-made blunderbusses. The folding bayonet is secured when deployed by a stud on the muzzle and is held when folded by a latch on the tang. When released, it snaps forward into place. The advanced lock has no visible markings. The semi-waterproof pan has gutters, and the frizzen has a roller that aligns with a stud on the frizzen spring. The trigger guard and buttplate have floral engraving. The stock has a checkered wrist and plain thumb plate shield.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The iron has dark brown patina and mild oxidation and pitting. The pitted lock has a coat of protective varnish applied. The brass ranges from fairly bright to well aged and stands proud in some areas such as the trigger guard finial and buttplate tang. The stock is fair and has repaired cracks between the thumb plate and barrel tang and above the nose of the lock, residue in the mostly sharp checkering, and scattered dings and scratches including a series of fresh surface scrapes on the right side of the wrist. The bayonet properly secures when folded and still releases with enough strength to latch properly when deployed. The lock is also mechanically fine.
