Description:

This cased example exhibits beautiful New York floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background with arrow motifs on the barrel that suggest that the engraving was done by L.D. Nimschke or in his shop. The frame, non-fluted cylinder, barrel lug, barrel, barrel rib at the breech, back strap and butt are engraved. The scrollwork on the left side of the barrel lug incorporates a floral blossom. The two-line address/patent date information is inside a panel of entwining lines accented with dots and stars. The several barrel flats at the breech, butt and back strap feature engraved entwining lines. The barrel arrow motif, back strap and butt have an additional engraved scallop border. The barrel and cylinder have matching assembly numbers. The case has a cartridge block holding 33 rounds and a bore rod. The included factory letter states that the revolver was shipped to J.W. Storrs of New York City, S&W's sole agent from 1857-1869, on November 22, 1865 with a blue finish and rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine as likely engraved when new. The revolver retains 95% plus of the period original engraved silver plating. The hammer retains most of the vivid case colors. The highly attractive grips are excellent with a very shallow chip missing near the bottom (left panel). The case is fine showing some wear on the to the lining and minor handling/storage marks. The inside of the case has a small museum or collector number. A beautiful cased New York engraved Model 1 1/2 revolver that would be a great addition to an antique Smith & Wesson collection.
