Description:

This model was produced by Smith & Wesson from 1857 to 1860 in six various types known as the "1st 1st". This particular revolver is a Model 1, 1st Issue, 2nd Type identified by the bayonet latch indicative of the 1st and 2nd type and features the first of five changes; the recoil plate made as a part of the frame. However, the only S&W markings come in the form of the single line barrel address on the top of the rib: "SMITH & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD. MASS." The revolver has not been serialized and features no assembly numerals or letters. Otherwise featuring standard features. Blade front and notch rear sights, 7 round un-fluted cylinder, spur trigger, silver plated brass frame with blued barrel and cylinder, and fitted with two-piece smooth rosewood grips.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel is now an even gray patina showing signs of original blue finish in protected areas with some dings concentrated on the top of the rib. The barrel address is clear. The cylinder has aged similarly and is now a even gray patina. Small flakes of original silver plating remain on the grip strap other wise the brass frame has taken on an aged mellow patina with some overall pressure marks and dings. The hammer will not remain cocked. The grips are fair showing some varnish wear and a crack to the right grip at the heel.
