The accompanying factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and rosewood grips. It was part of a 100 gun shipment to J.W. Storrs of New York City on 7 October 1865. Although historian Roy Jinks references presentation cases in the letter, the cases are unrelated to this revolver. This revolver does come with a rare factory box. It is believed to be one of only 3 to 5 known boxes. The underside of the box has a handwritten period notation (see photograph). A bore brush is also included. The barrel rib has the two-line address/patent dates, the right grip panel is numbered to the gun, and the back of the barrel lug and the front cylinder face are marked "O 7."

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish showing some thinning to a brown and some minor handling marks. The grips are also excellent showing some minor handling marks and retaining nearly all of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good showing edge wear, a partially repaired tear caused by the hammer and repaired lid corners. An exceptional example of a Model 1 1/2 First Issue revolver with rare factory box that would be a great addition to any antique Smith & Wesson collection.
