Description:

From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Armies, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. These revolvers have casehardened frame and blue cylinder, grip frame and barrel. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "9610" on the frame, "1811" on the trigger guard, "139408/K" on the back strap and the cylinder is un-numbered and is marked "L and "P"" on the rear face, and "P" and "J" on the side. It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" and "D.F.C." marked on the bottom of the barrel and the two line, two patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is numbered "806". It has the early style "bulls eye" ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with smooth one piece walnut grip. The revolver comes with a single loop holster, an unopened 12 count box of Frankford Arsenal 45 caliber ball cartridges and an open box with five spent casings and one live round. Both boxes are marked "Frankford Arsenal, 1878."

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refinished with 90% blue finish remaining, showing some edge wear, a few minor scratches and some areas of thinning. The frame retains 95% case colors with some light spotting on the recoil shield. The grip has been sanded and revarnished and remains very good with some minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The holster is fair with heavy wear and tight stitching. Both ammunition boxes are very good.
