The letter confirms the revolver was part of a two gun shipment in .44-40 with 4 3/4 inch barrels and blue finish (blue/casehardened) sent to the California Hardware Company in Los Angeles, California, on August 7, 1920. The revolver remains in this configuration and has the two-line barrel address, "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40" on the barrel, two-line/three-date patent marking with Rampant Colt on the frame, matching serial numbers on frame and left side of the grip frame, partial matching serial number "81" on the back of the cylinder, and matching assembly number "562" on the loading gate and back of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and ejector housing retain 80% original blue finish and have some bright holster type wear and the noted filed down front sight. The cylinder retains 60% of the original blue finish and has a series of drag lines. The grip frame has strong original blue around the trigger guard and on the butt and is faded to a smooth gray on the straps. The front sight has been trimmed/filed. The frame retains 25% of the original case colors. They are strong in the protected areas at the front of the frame, subtler in other protected areas, and faded to a smooth gray on the most exposed areas. The hammer retains 30% of the lightly fading original case colors. The grips are very good and have a chip at the toe of the left panel, several dings and scratches, mostly crisp checkering, and some patches of mild smoothing. The markings are crisp, and the action remains excellent.
