A) Charleville Model 1777 Musket with Bayonet

Description:

The various "Charleville" pattern muskets of the 18th century and 19th century were the main infantry arms of the France from the early 18th century through the 1840s. These two are both early 19th century variations. Marked "Me 1777" on the barrel tang, "1810" on the left at the breech, "F=L" on the upper jaw and side plate, various proofs and property marks including "T" inside a crown, a variety of stamps and hand scratched markings including stars and the name "DUPRE" on the sides of the butt, and "Manufre Imple/de Charleville" on the lock. A socket bayonet is included.

Rating Definition:

Very good with gray patina and light spotting/pitting. The stock has a later coat of varnish, minor crack at the rear lock screw, and numerous scrapes, dings, and dents. Mechanically fine.

Description:

This was originally a full length Model 1822 musket. It was period converted to percussion and then also rifled in period. Some of the work was likely executed in Belgium given the Liege "EL/G/*" proof on the barrel. The lock has faint traces of the French arsenal marking. Other features are a blade front sight on the front barrel band set, sling swivels, and a cheek rest cutout on the smooth stock which also has "1664/5978."

Rating Definition:

Good as shortened by 10 or 12 inches and reconverted to flintlock. Most of the metal has been cleaned and has light gray patina and some minor pitting. The stock has been varnished and has some wood filler, minor chipping, and small cracks. Mechanically fine.
