Offered here is one of only three documented factory Winchester Model 9422M lever action cutaway carbines. According to the included hand written letter from Winchester field representative Walter Phillips, this carbine is "one of three 9422s cutaway models constructed for Winchester in 1972-73 when this gun was first introduced." The letter is dated 28 April 1990. A second letter from Winchester Custom Shop Manager B.W. Pardee confirms that Phillips requested three cutaway 9422s to be built and that these "three guns were the only three cutaways ever done, at least with factory authorization, on this model." The purpose of the cutaways was to demonstrate the new working mechanism that was "unfamiliar to Winchester warranty gunsmith at that time." The third included document is a factory letter that also confirms that this gun was one of only three cutaways for this model. The cutaway features are on the left side and top of the receiver for a total of four views into the inner workings. The barrel has standard factory markings. Mounted on a fancy American walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a factory plastic buttplate as confirmed by the factory letter.

Excellent. The carbine retains 99% plus original blue finish showing a few minor handling marks. The wood is also excellent showing a few minor handling mark. The action cycles properly.
