Description:

The Remington-Hepburn was designed by Remington mechanical department superintendent and talented marksman Lewis L. Hepburn in 1879 and introduced in 1880. Only a select few "Walker-Hepburn" Schuetzen rifles were manufactured in the 1880s to 1907. They used ornate finger spur trigger guards as levers instead of the traditional side levers found on other Hepburn rifles. This custom example has an unmarked heavy part octagon barrel, spirit level globe front sight, no rear sight dovetail, checkered Schnabel tip forearm signed "R. STEGER/2-2000" on the inside at the tail with casehardened plate at the rear, "HEPBURNS PAT/OCT 7TH 1879" on the left side of the frame, tang peep sight, and a checkered semi-pistol grip stock with high comb, cheekpiece, Swiss buttplate, and "R. STEGER/FEB 2000" marking under the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally custom built. 98% plus of the blue finish and vibrant case colors remains, and the buttplate is still bright. There are a few minor marks and scratches scattered throughout as well as some minor dings on the edges of the buttplate. There is oxidation on the muzzle and hammer. The wood is also very fine and has beautiful burl figure, sharp checkering, and mild handling and storage type marks. Mechanically fine.
