Description:

The first production firearms chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge, the Magnum set a new standard in firepower and accuracy. Each Smith & Wesson Registered Magnum was built to the specifications of the buyer and then registered by number to the owner by Douglas Wesson himself, the then Vice President of Smith & Wesson. This particular Magnum, number "1379," features a pinned blade front sight, adjustable notch rear sight, standard markings and matching numbers on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel shroud and right grip panel. The matching assembly number "5818" is marked on the frame and crane. The accompanying factory letter verifies the barrel length, rear sight, finish and grips. The letter states revolver was equipped with a Call gold bead front sight when it left the factory on 2 September 1936 for an individual in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was sighted at 20 yards with .38 Special Mid Range Wad Cutters using a dead center hold, and the single action trigger pull was adjusted to 3 pounds. Comes with a correct period factory box.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% plus original blue finish showing barely noticeable pin prick flaking above the left barrel marking and a cylinder drag line. Nearly all of the vivid original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are also excellent with limited minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The worn and faded box is good.
