Description:

Slotter & Co. was formed by former employees of Henry Deringer and manufactured Deringer style pistols, rifles, and other firearms in Philadelphia from 1859/1860 until 1871 primarily for the western arms trade, especially for California dealers like A. J. Plate and C. Curry. This rifle utilizes distinctive Slotter & Co. furniture, a Remington barrel, and likely a lock manufactured by another Philadelphia firm. "SLOTTER & CO. PHILA" is stamped on the lock and top of the barrel. The upper left barrel flat is marked "320 GAIN TWIST," and the underside has "2" on both the barrel and the breech plug and likely had "REMINGTON" stamped near the breech. "2" is also stamped on the underside of the lock on multiple components and trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The sights, some screws, and stock are modern replacements. The iron displays a blend of dark brown patina and blue finish and has mild edge wear. The underside of the barrel near the breech has some rough work and has two wedge staples. There is oxidation around the nipple and flash guard. Most of the markings and patterns are crisp, but the scrollwork on the nose cap is faded. The stock is very good and has some minor dings and dents. Mechanically fine.
