Description:

This is an attractive example of a very scarce "PX" Krieghoff Luger pistol that is pictured and identified in Randall Gibon's "The Krieghoff Parabellum" on page 241. It is estimated that approximately 245 of these were produced in total directly after the end of WWII. The various parts, frames, barrels and barrel extensions for these pistols were actually produced some time in the last months before the end of the war; i.e. Feb-May 1945 timeframe. Then afterwards with the country in total destruction, the Krieghoff factory was strapped for money and decided to use these various parts to assemble Lugers pistols for sale to the "souvenir hungry" GI through the various stores and local PX system. Hence the collector name, "PX" Luger. These Lugers will have mostly all Krieghoff made parts with some being fitted with Mauser factory barrels as in this example. It is estimated that the first 75-100 Lugers that were assembled used toggles that still retained the Heinrich Krieghoff logo on top and after they ran out, all remaining Lugers had blank parts, as in the case of this example. The only markings on this Luger are the large serial number (128) stamped on the front end of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension along with a small "eagle/2" proof mark on the right side with a small "Eagle/135" Waffenamt on the left side of the barrel. It still retains the prewar, "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" marked extractor and safety area. There are two magazines which are the late war third model with the all blued magazine bodies, with the brown base plug with the pin through the center, marked "128" on the spine. With a correct unmarked black leather holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 97% of the original Krieghoff factory blued finish with wear and thinning on the grip straps, edges and high spots overall. Straw colors remain 75% intact. The grips are also in excellent condition showing nice checkering overall with some storage marks. Holster is fair, with cracking and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
