Description:

Overall length is 30 inches, with a 20 1/2 inch blade with a wavy hamon and well developed grain, set in a gilt copper habaki. The tsuba, fuchi and koshira are blackened iron, with floral-themed menuki and a leather covered saya with single hanger. The tang is well aged and unsigned, with two mekugi-ana. Consignor attribution of the blade is to the Koto era (pre-1600).

Rating Definition:

Very good. The fine blade shows signs of use and polishing, with light nicks in the edge near the tip, a few grain splits, and mild spotting and wear overall. The furniture is good overall, with mild wear. A leather retention strap was added behind the tsuba and later partially removed.
