Description:

Manufactured by the Nagoya Arsenal, the Type 2 was a specialized takedown variant of the Type 99 Arisaka for issue to paratroopers. As Japanese parachute technology made jumping with a full-sized rifle impractical, the Type 2 would be carried disassembled and then snapped together on landing. Fitted with an inverted "V" front sight and folding ladder rear sight with attached anti-aircraft wings, standard receiver markings, untouched mum, matching "998" assembly number on the mounting hardware and receiver, matching partial serial number "288" on the underside of the barrel lug, bolt handle, extractor, and firing pin. Fitted with a smooth forend with grasping grooves and a pistol grip stock with a cupped, smooth steel buttplate. The dust shield is not matching.

Rating Definition:

Very good. Traces of the thinning war-time blue finish remains with some high point and edge wear visible, clear legible markings, patchy mild oxidation, and a darker mottled patina on some of the fittings. The refreshed wood is good with a rubbed oil finish, small pressure dents and minor gouges overall, and some visible gaps around the fittings and bolt release. Mechanically excellent, though there is a slight gap between the barrel and receiver sections when assembled.
