This pre-Civil War rifle is signed "H W" on the top barrel flat (also appears to have a smaller "H" at the tail of the large "H") and has basic blade and notch sights, a "J & C/GASCOIGNE/WARRANTED" lock with typical minor engraving, light line and dot engraving on the furniture, 8 ovoid silver inlays on the forend, a silver thumb plate, and a silver crescent moon the cheekpiece.

Good with a blend of gray and brown patina on the barrel, mostly light pitting overall, heavy flash corrosion at the breech, gray refinished patina on the lock, repaired refinished hammer, aged patinas on the silver and brass, attractive striping on the stock, minor handling and storage marks throughout, and functioning lock and triggers.
