Description:

This is a very fine example of an early production Colt Military Model 1902 commercial contract semi-automatic pistol as manufactured in 1905. This was the next model manufactured after the "sight safety" model that eventually lead to the development/adoption of the Colt Model 1911 pistol. These were manufactured from 1902 to 1929 as they were a very popular, early semi-automatic pistol. Most saw heavy use by law enforcement and gangsters. Since it is the military model it has the square end butt with the lanyard loop on the lower left rear side and sporting style round hammer spur. The slide has the standard factory markings: "BROWNING'S PATENT/ PATENTED APRIL 20.1897. SEPTEMBER 9. 1902" followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIREARMS MFG.CO./HARTFORD, CT.U.S.A.", with the Colt Rampant Horse logo behind the slide serrations. The right side is marked behind the ejection port "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" and in front of the ejection port "MODEL 1902". The left side of the frame is stamped with serial number (13289) stamped above the trigger guard bow. It comes with one all blued magazine that is marked "PAT'D SEPT 8. 1894" on the base plate. These pistols have a Colt high polish blue finish with checkered hard rubber grips with "Colt" at the top and the Rampant Colt logo in the center of the grip. The trigger, slide stop and rear sight have the niter blue finish. The hammer and lanyard loop are casehardened. The barrel is blue.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish overall with loss visible on the upper rear left edge of the grip strap where a spot of blue has flaked off with minor areas of surface rust. The grips are in excellent condition showing no visible handling marks. The smaller parts retain 95% of their original nitre blue and the hammer retains 90% of its original case colors, with some minor wear on the right side. A very high condition early Colt Military Model 1902 Semi-Automatic pistol.
