This is an late WWI production U.S. Model 1911 pistol manufactured by Colt for the U.S. Army. This example was manufactured in 1917 and originally shipped to San Antonio Arsenal. It has the Roman style lettering and marking with serifs. The slide is marked with the standard two line, two block factory patent dates and address, with the Rampant Colt logo behind the slide serrations. The right side has the "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" markings. The frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and it has the circled "JMG" proof of LTC J.M. Gilbert. It still has the correct early WWI parts such as the Colt wide spur hammer with borderless checkering, flat main spring housing, checkered slide stop and thumb safety and it is fitted with the correct WWI mid-production Colt barrel that is marked with the separated "P" and "H" proofs on top of the chamber area of the barrel. It has one half-tone magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% plus of the original blue finish with edge and high spot wear, with blue loss on the front edges of the slide, with much thinning and browning on the front grips strap and mainspring housing. The grips are in very good condition with nice visible checkering overall mixed with light wear and handling marks on the tops of the checking mixed with some nicks and dings on the left side.
