This is one of the approximately 2,800 scopes developed and manufactured c.1940 for the U.S. Marine Corps, to be installed on 1903 National Match rifles by USMC/Navy armorers. The scopes themselves were kept in inventory after World War II, seeing re-issue as late as Vietnam. It is marked "J. Unertl/USMC-SNIPER/2313" on the main body tube ahead of "8", with a rail-guided sliding aluminum front ring, an adjustable Unertl marked rear ring, and a pair of mounting blocks with screws.

Very fine overall, with mild wear and spotting on the exterior, and a brown patina on the rings. The optics are crisp and clear, and the reticle is solid.
