Manufactured in 1917 with standard fixed blade front and frame notch rear sights, two-line address and patent marking on top of the barrel, and the model and caliber marking on the left side. The back strap is marked "RNWMP1538", and the butt is stamped "MP" indicating purchase and issue to the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, a forerunner of the current Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Fitted with checkered grips with "COLT" at the top and a lanyard ring on the butt. The included factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish. It was shipped to the Commissioner of Royal Northwest Mounted Police, Canada, on 8 October 1918 as part of a 200 gun shipment. A letter written by retired RCMP Inspector D.J. Klancher restates the shipping information and states that the RCMP surplus New Service revolvers were reportedly sold in the 1950s.

Very fine. 80% original blue finish remains with high point and edge wear, small nicks and dings throughout, clear markings, handling marks overall, and a brown patina on the cylinder, grip straps, and butt. The grips are very good as repaired on the butt with well defined checkering, clear markings, and small scattered dings. Mechanically excellent.
