Description:

25,000-30,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in 1875-1889. Though Remington hoped to compete against Colt for both commercial and government sales, their success was marginal in part due to Colt's two year head start. Small numbers were successfully sold to the Interior Department for use by the Indian Police and to the governments of Mexico and Egypt. Despite their lack of commercial success, these are well-made revolvers with many similarities to Colt's design. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "E.REMINGTON & SONS.ILLION.N.Y.U.S.A." The caliber designation "44" is stamped on the left side of the frame ahead of the cylinder. The serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame beneath the grip and handwritten on the backside of the left grip. The right grip has "A" and "B", and a "G" is stamped on the right side of the grip frame. The loading gate appears to be marked "688." "RJM" (presumably the initials of a prior owner) is scratched on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus original nickel plating, minor spotting, scattered light scratches, drag lines on the cylinder, and mostly gray patina on the screws. The grips are fine and have a few minor scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent.
