Description:

Manufactured from 1907 to 1915, this is an example of a Smith and Wesson First Model 44 Hand Ejector with the very desirable "Triple Lock" mechanism. The top of the barrel is marked with the three line address and patent markings, with "44 S&W SPECIAL CTG." marked on the left side and correctly no markings on the right side. It has the standard "S&W" trade mark logo on the right side plate. The early features are the five screw frame, the shrouded ejector housing, the smooth grip straps, square butt, thin trigger with the smooth face, fixed round blade front sight, and of course the "Triple Lock " mechanism. It has matching serial numbers on the back of the cylinder, inside the barrel shroud and the bottom of the butt. The crane and frame cutout also both have matching "8490" assembly numbers. Included is an original Smith & Wesson Revolvers price list of parts catalogue dated January 1922.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% plus original blue finish with an area of moderate pitting on the left side of the barrel, high edge wear, some minor pitting on the cylinder and scattered minor flaking and spotting. The hammer and trigger retain 85% original case colors. The grips are also very good with a few minor dents and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The catalogue is fair with the covers unattached.
