Description:

Manufactured in 1940. This is an example of a scarce pre-World War II smooth bore .22 LR Shot Model 61 rifle with a Routledge designed counter-bored barrel. It has a single bead front sight, the Winchester legend along with "-22 LONG R. SHOT" marked on the left side of the barrel at the breech and the Winchester factory oval proof on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The magazine has a triangular loading port. The receiver tang is factory tapped for sight mounting, and the top of the frame has a matted sighting groove. The matching serial number is marked on the underside of the frame and on the trigger guard. Mounted on a 17 groove flat bottom forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 80% original blue finish with moderate slide retraction marks and the balance a mixture of smooth gray and brown patinas. The wood is fine showing some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
