Manufactured in 1869. The Musket has the distinctive Third Model serial number located behind the trigger on the lower receiver tang and flared frame at junction with the forend. The musket has 27 inch round barrel, 24 inch magazine and three barrel bands. The upper barrel band is equipped with a lug for a sword bayonet. Model 1866 Muskets with sword bayonet lugs are rare. The barrel is fitted with the 'intermediate' style two-position rear sight and lug front sight for a socket bayonet. Sling swivels are fitted on the stock and middle barrel band. The musket has a brass, carbine style, buttplate with sliding trap.

Refinished. The barrel, magazine, barrel bands and bayonet lug have been filed and rebrowned. The hammer and loading lever have a silver-gray patina. The brass receiver has been heavily polished. The side plate joints are tight and the receiver has a crudely replaced loading gate. The walnut stock and forend are in good condition with moderate handling wear. The barrel markings are removed. The rear sight leaf is broken. Mechanically fine.
