These prints were released in 1908 and were quickly recalled due to the ease of interpreting the tag line as calling for shooting the two black men rather than skunks, especially given the two are rather caricatured and the racial climate of the period. Most had the border with the writing removed before being re-shipped to Winchester dealers, and the vast majority of these prints have been disposed of in the last century. This rare example remains in outstanding condition and remains in the original format. The print is approximately 32 3/4 inches wide and 25 inches tall, and the frame is 44 3/8 inches wide and 36 3/8 inches tall. It depicts one man flushing a skunk out of a tree trunk with a stick and a dog and second man startled by the skunk. A double barrel percussion shotgun is leaning against the log. It is marked with "WINCHESTER SHOTGUN SHELLS" above the scene, "SHOOT THEM AND AVOID TROUBLE" below it, and "W" trademark logos on the sides.

Very fine with mild edge wear including some subtle tears. The imagery and text remains vibrant with very slight fading. The frame is very good with mild storage wear. This is an incredibly rare and fine piece of Winchester advertising history.
