Description:

Measuring 35 1/2 inches overall, with a 24 3/4 inch blade showing a sharp wavy hamon fitted into a silver finished habaki. The furniture is of the very late World War II "Type 98/Marine" style, with blackened iron fittings, textured material in lieu of rayskin, stamped cherry blossom themed menuki, and a rough textured non-metal saya. The tang is fitted with two mekugi-ana, with "3964" stamped on the spine and a 3-symbol signature on the right side, which appears to be that of the Showa smith "Nagamitsu".

Rating Definition:

Very fine. There are a few nicks on the edge at and near the tip, some evidence of cleaning, and scattered scuffs and sots, with much of the hamon still sharply defined and a fine grain to the metal. The fittings are good by late-WWII standards, with one mekugi-ana absent and wear appropriate to age and handling.
