Description:

This is an outstanding unused example of a Winchester Model 1873 that was manufactured in 1882. It has the correct Third Model guide rail and dust cover. The factory letter confirms the caliber, special order extra long 26 inch round barrel, plain trigger, and that it was received in the warehouse on September 26, 1883, and shipped the following day in order 7240. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" and is factory drilled and tapped for a tang-mounted sight. The cartridge elevator has "32 CAL" on the bottom. The barrel is fitted with a Lyman dovetailed beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight and is marked with the two-line address/King's improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "32 W.C.F." at the breech. The hammer, lever and buttplate are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blue. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, near new. The rifle retains 99% original blue finish showing a few minor handling marks. The remaining metal surfaces retain 98% plus original case colors. The wood is also excellent plus showing a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. This is an extraordinary example of an antique Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle that would be hard to improve upon.
