Manufactured in 1890 with special order hard rubber shotgun buttplate and highly figured, smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock. This rifle also has dovetail beaded blade front, elevation adjustable rear and tang peep sights, a barrel with the two-line address marking ahead of the rear sight and "40-65 WCF" at the breech, an upper tang marked "-MODEL 1886-" and a lower tang marked with the two-line 1884 and 1885 patent dates marking and serial number. The left side of the lower tang is marked "14XX SRB," and the upper tang stock cut-out is marked with a matching "14." The barrel, magazine and bolt are blue, and the remaining surfaces are casehardened.

Fine overall. The barrel and magazine retain 30% plus of original blue, otherwise a smooth brown patina. The bolt retains 85% original blue finish. The remaining surfaces retain 25% original case colors with the balance a smooth gray patina. The wood shows a shallow long gash and a number of minor scratches.
