Description:

The factory letter confirms the rifle's serial number was applied on December 13, 1893, and that it was received and shipped on January 26, 1894, in order number 6530 as a rifle in .25-20 with a 28 inch octagon #2 weight barrel and plain trigger. The rifle has a "thick side" receiver with round ring, standard lever and a tang mounted Lyman folding combination sight. The barrel has a Lyman folding combination front sight and sporting style buckhorn rear sight with serrated edges and screw-adjustable centerpiece. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight. "25 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the top barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. The barrel designation "2" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forearm tip. "PAT. OCT. 7th 79" is stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger, and the serial number "66111" is stamped on the lower tang between the tang screws. The hammer, lever, trigger, and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut with a varnish finish. The forearm has a schnabel tip with an ebony insert.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The rifle is all original and retains 99% plus of the original blue and overall finish. The receiver, breechblock, hammer, lever and crescent buttplate have 98% or more of the vivid original case colors. The stock and forearm are in excellent to near new condition and retain virtually all of the original finish. Wear on the stock and forearm is limited to a few very insignificant handling and storage marks. This is a nearly new example of the classic Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Standard rifle.
