Description:

Third Model manufactured in 1883. The two-line address/King's improvement patent dates are marked on the top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight, and "38 - CAL.." is at the breech. The upper tang marking is covered by a Marble's short range peep sight. The serial number is marked on the lower tang, and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL." The barrel is fitted with a Lyman folding front globe sight and adjustable semi-buckhorn sporting rear sight. 1/2 length magazine tube, single set trigger, blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate; and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a shotgun butt.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 30% original blue finish with a mottled dark and gray patina on the balance. There is some minor pitting scattered on the breech end of the barrel and some minor spotting on the receiver, as well has some minor dings and scratches. The wood is good as having been revarnished some time ago, showing a few small gouges on the stock, and overall some minor dents, dings and scratches. The action needs work, the hammer moves freely and unable to hold a cock position due to broken spring. The markings are crisp and clear.
