Description:

Manufactured from January 1871 to early 1876. Features a bead/post front sight, Lawrence patent notch and ladder rear sight, plain trigger, taps for peep sight mounting, filled peep sight screw holes on the comb, longer screw in the lower tang and other evidence of a former pistol grip extension, the Hartford address ahead of the rear sight, "CALIBRE 40" on top at the breech, "70" on the right flat, the serial number and "3" on the bottom, matching numbered forearm with pewter tip, "345" on the bottom of the action on the left, patent marking on the left side of the action, serial number on the upper tang, and matching number on the underside of the lock and buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% plus original blue finish and minor spotting on the barrel, bright metal/silver-gray patina on the action, dark patina and light oxidation on the buttplate, and general minor marks and scratches. The wood is very good as refinished and has the noted filled holes in the comb, some minor edge wear, chipping below the lock, a few other small chips, splice/filler piece behind the lower tang, and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
