Description:

These pistols were manufactured around the late 1770s and were subsequently converted around the early to mid-19th century. The date codes on the grotesque mask pommel caps are not visible, but very similar pistols by Joiner dated to the 1770s are known. The Birmingham "anchor" hallmarks are visible. The locks are both marked "JOINER" in banners near the center. The locks have been expertly converted to percussion and have matching engraving on the locks and hammers. The trigger guards have engraved pineapple style finials and floral motifs on the bow that match other Joiner pistols from the 1770s. The barrels have blade front sights, "JOINER LONDON" on top, and cross scepter proofs on the upper left flat. The ornate thumb and side plates are also silver. The stocks have silver inlaid scroll and shell designs around the barrel tang.

Rating Definition:

Good. Most of the iron components display gray and brown patina and have traces of period refurbished finish. There is also pitting concentrated on the barrel and some minor oxidation throughout. The silver has attractive aged patinas. The stock has repaired cracks along the forend and below the lock.
