Description:

The Harpers Ferry Model 1803 was first rifle manufactured by a U.S. armory and was used during the War of 1812 and is said to have influenced the iconic Hawken rifles and other 19th century half-stock rifles used by civilians. After this model, the military returned to using full stock rifles. Other than the rib, this example has the standard markings and features and is dated "1814" on the lock.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration. The barrel and lock have a dark blend of patina, oxidation, and applied brown along with mild pitting. The brass has dark aged patina. The wood is very good with various scattered dings and scratches and a faint cartouche. It is period fitted with a replacement wooden rib and ramrod pipes. Mechanically fine.
