Description:

Manufactured in 1856. The barrel has the two-line London address, cylinder has the stagecoach holdup scene, frame has "COLTS/PATENT," and matching numbers on the barrel, frame, grip straps, loading lever, cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. The accompanying handwritten letter of provenance states this revolver was "used by an English army officer by the name of Stephens or Stevens, he was killed in the Crimean War" (October 1853 to February 1856). The gun was returned to the dead officer's family and brought to the U.S. by his brother who had an office in Ruthland, Vermont. The gun was later given to Peter Allard who passed the revolver to his nephew (the writer of the letter) in 1939.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 50% original high polished blue finish and 40% original case colors remain with the overall balance between smooth brown and gray patinas. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The grip straps retain 85% original silver plating. The grip is fine with a shallow long gash (right side) and some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
